I was a toothpick. I don't think I weighed over 138lbs after graduating in 1986.
My intelligence made up for it. I consistently scored at the top of the class and hardly ever had homework. Some of the "names" my mom's new man would call me were "Professor," "Mayor," and "Whiz Kid." Those didn't bother me too much at the time, but later, I found out they were a huge problem for both him and my mom.
Riding the bus back and forth to Headstart, I was friendly with a few people. (names mentioned in the actual book) I liked school and loved learning and taking the IOWA tests.
Reading was a passion, and I read anything I could get my hands on.
